A World of Contrasts

A Black and White Issue

Great for Media Studies and to tie in with texts examining racial issues.

Leaving Cert (LC from now on!) think about the impact of this picture: the framing and contrast between the “shiny happy people” depicted enjoying the  “American Way” and the stark reality of the bread line in front. Does it make a difference being in black and white rather than colour?

Note also how the car seems to be “driving over” the people in the breadline.

About Marc362

Second level teacher of English and Special Needs Co-ordinator in large, mixed rural community school in Cork. Love literature, language and teaching! It is never boring, always a challenge and frequently rewarding. No two class groups, years, are the same. It's a pleasure (mostly...!)
